Milwaukee Community Action Team

The Milwaukee CAT is led by staff at Creative Employment Opportunities (CEO).   The Milwaukee CAT has been working in collaboration with the West Allis School District to engage students in career exploration through job shadows and work experiences. The team planned an employer-focused community conversation.  Since, they have decided to plan more targeted education and engagement given the challenges of bringing people together to talk about employment for individuals with disabilities in the urban setting of Milwaukee.

In May 2014, a diverse group of stakeholders including employers, decision-makers, advocates and Employment Consultants gathered to learn about the advantages of hiring citizens with disabilities.  The event, sponsored by the Board for Persons with Developmental Disabilities and hosted by Creative Employment Opportunities, Inc. (CEO) was held at the Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse. Features included short films starring employees with disabilities and their employers, many of whom were in attendance and available to answer questions from the audience.  Read the Press Release

In June 2014, the Milwaukee CAT held a disability employment film festival at the Rosebud Theater in Wauwatosa.  30 people attended and 7 of those were employers.  Others were parents, self-advocates, and advocates/service providers.  The event received very positive feedback and plans are being made to replicate this kind of event in other parts of the state.
